The only Brazilian on the UFC 172 preliminary card, this Saturday (26) in Baltimore (USA), Beth Pitbull did not disappoint, showing high level boxing, and beat TUF 18 participant Jessamin Duke by unanimous decision of the judges, remaining undefeated in her career.

At the beginning of the first round, Bethe and Jessamin studied each other a lot. The Brazilian had difficulty finding distance from her opponent, mainly due to the North American's greater wingspan. Even so, she managed to land good blows on her opponent.

In the second round, Bethe managed to close the distance and hit her rival, but had a difficult time due to the takedowns and the clinch of North American muay thai. Despite this, the “Pitbull Brothers” athlete maintained a solid game on her feet and was the aggressor in the final. The scenario was repeated in the third round and Bethe Correia was declared the winner by unanimous decision of the judges. Now, Pitbull has an undefeated record of eight wins, two of them in the UFC.

Benavidez recovers from a complicated situation and submits Elliot in the first round

Once again, Joseph Benavidez showed that he only has problems against the champion Demetrious Johnson, the only athlete to beat him in the octagon. In the fight that closed the UFC 172 preliminary card, Benavidez submitted Tim Elliot in the first round and achieved his seventh UFC victory.

After starting in difficulties, being taken down easily by Elliot and coming close to being submitted with a crucifix, Benavidez managed to reverse the situation and submit his rival with a guillotine so tight that it meant that Elliot had to tap out with his feet – instead of hands.

In a frank striking match, Takanori Gomi overcomes Isaac Vallie-Flagg

Considered a few years ago as the best lightweight on the planet, in his golden years in the now-defunct PRIDE, Takanori Gomi is currently going through a much more complicated time in the UFC. Even so, the Japanese still guarantees good moments in the octagon and starred in a busy fight against Isaac Vallie-Flagg, winning the decision.

In all partials, Gomi and Vallie-Flagg committed to frank striking. Known for his explosiveness, “Fireball Kid” Gomi bet on placing his strikes well, while the North American applied some sequences and worked at medium distance. At the end of the three rounds, more incisively, Takanori Gomi was declared the winner by unanimous decision of the judges, in a triple 29-28.

Spectacular knockouts open the night in Baltimore

The event in Baltimore opened with two fights that gave a preview that the night should be of a high level. Chris Beal and Danny Castillo scored two clean knockouts and outpointed Patrick Williams and Charlie Brenneman, respectively.

TUF 18 participant Chris Beal maintained control of the fight, despite suffering some hard blows, and achieved victory with a clean knockout at the beginning of the second round by delivering a beautiful flying knee, which left his opponent Patrick Williams unconscious.

Danny Castillo had already lost the first round to Charlie Brenneman, although he was unable to achieve a takedown that could have changed the advantage in the partial due to an irregular hold on his opponent's fence. But Castillo didn't need the stitches. At the beginning of the second round, “Last Call”, as he is known, landed a powerful cross on Brenneman's chin and secured the victory.
