In the main betting houses, Jon Jones is favorite to win in his seventh belt defense, against Glover Teixeira, at UFC 172. In the opinion of the former champion and member of Hall of Fame Chuck Lidell, however, is the Brazilian who should emerge victorious in the fight next Saturday (26) in Baltimore (USA). And more: for Lidell, of whom Glover was once sparring, the fight will not even reach the third round.
“I think (Glover) achieves (the Jon Jones) with a punch and he feels it, and then he finishes or knocks him out”, said Chuck in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”. “I’m not sure which of those options, but it’s one of those (that will happen). It doesn't go past the third round. (…) I think what will have the biggest effect is the power that Glover has. He hits very hard”, added the former champion.
Lidell also highlighted how tireless the Brazilian is in his preparation work and commented on his evolution in recent years. “He was always a tireless worker. When he came to us, he was more of a jiu-itsu guy. But he kept working, I kept working and he was always in great shape. He always demanded a lot from me in the gym, he demanded a lot from my conditioning and he really was always a hard worker”, she analyzed.
Next Saturday (26), when you step into the octagon set up in Baltimore Arena, Glover Teixeira puts nine years of invincibility to the test. The Brazilian, who has not suffered a defeat since March 2005, and has won five consecutive victories since his debut in Ultimate, faces the champion Jon Jones, record holder for consecutive title defenses in the light heavyweight category, for the title of the 93 kg division. The fight is the main event of UFC 172.
