Close to fighting for the UFC middleweight belt, Lyoto Machida He knows he will have a tough challenge ahead. On July 5th, the Brazilian faces Chris Weidman to try to become Ultimate champion for the second time, but recognizes that his rival offers danger in all aspects of the fight.

“I think the care I have to take with Weidman is that he is an MMA fighter. Of course he must have his strategy of wanting to take me down, but he's also a dangerous guy when fighting on his feet, kicking, punching. And I think that's my strategy, I'm going to build on the fight. He is a guy who can fight in any aspect, he is dangerous in any territory”, said Machida, in an interview with the Combate channel website.

Initially, the fight would take place on May 24th, but had to be postponed due to an injury suffered by the champion. Machida admits that he preferred the initial plans. “For me the first date was better, because I had already been training after the fight with [Gegard] Mousasi, I spent a period of 15 days resting and was practically entering camp, I would have nine or ten weeks of training, which was the enough for me. But things happened this way, I have to accept all of this and look at it with different eyes, as I am looking at it. I will actually have more time to train and, somehow, I will take advantage of it,” he said.
