Canadian Georges St Pierre marked his name in the history of MMA. The welterweight, who announced a career break at the end of last year, was the UFC's most dominant champion in the category and accumulated 10 title defenses (including one unification). But what few people know is that GSP was a victim of bullying as a child.

The fighter revealed that the problems he suffered when he was children were fundamental to his beginnings in martial arts and his successful record as an MMA fighter.

“I was a victim of bullying, but I don't like to complain because it made me who I am today. I don't think anyone who is bullied should act like a victim. Yes, I was bullied, but I used it as an obstacle to overcome in my life to become stronger. This was one of the reasons that led me to train karate, to defend myself. I trained karate to defend myself at school and now I do it professionally to make a living as an MMA fighter”, said St. Pierre on the Sensei program, on the SporTV channel.

Despite his great success within the UFC, the start of the Canadian's career was not good. Still in the interview, GSP revealed that his first fight lasted less than a minute and he ended up getting knocked out.

PUBLICITY:

“I started for fun. When I started competing I was 10 years old. I will always remember my first competition, my first karate fight. It was Kyokushin style and I was in the youth category. The fight started, my opponent kicked me right in the stomach and I fell to the ground, unable to breathe or stand up (laughs). They stopped the fight and I lost. It didn’t even take 30 seconds and I was embarrassed,” he recalled.
