Current UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones He is considered the best fighter on the planet, pound for pound. Even so, the North American made a point of praising another UFC belt holder, Ronda Rousey, current number one in the female bantamweight category.
In the past, Jones even stated that he saw the UFC making a greater effort to promote Ronda's image than that of other champions, including himself. The statement caused some discomfort among the champions, but Jones made a point of clarifying his position. “Regarding the situation involving Ronda, I want to record something. I hope I didn't offend you by saying that the UFC promotes her more than they do me. I was just using an example,” Jones said, according to the “FOX Sports” broadcaster’s website.
“I'm a big fan of hers, and I think I've made it very clear what I think about her. She is an incredible inspiration, an incredible athlete. She is incredible in every way. Ronda, you are my girl. I hope she hears this,” he continued.
Jones also took the opportunity to respond to the recent criticisms made by Phil Davis, who stated that the champion was worrying too much about the fights of his possible future opponents. “Phil has his job to do, which is to earn the right to challenge for the title. I think he thinks that by insulting me and creating controversy, he will get closer to fighting for the title. Maybe it's working because we're talking about him more than usual. But I will be there. My goal is to be number one when he arrives, and then everything will take care of itself”, the champion simply said.
Jones' next commitment within the UFC will be on April 26, at UFC 172, when he will defend his belt for the seventh time against Glover Teixeira.
