Steve Carl is not underestimating his next challenger for the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) welterweight title. This Saturday (29), the North American will face the former UFC athlete Rousimar Toquinho, against whom he will make his first defense since becoming champion in October.
In an interview with the North American website “Sherdog”, Carl admitted that Toquinho's style is the most difficult to beat, since, like the Brazilian, his game is stronger on the ground. “The only hesitation I have is that, style-wise, he is the hardest fight WSOF can give me. Before I became champion, I would have been hesitant to accept a fight against him, but now that I have the belt, there isn't an opponent I would reject. I'm the champion and I'm here to prove that I'm the best, so that means I'll fight anyone”, he said.
Carl wasn't worried if the Brazilian managed to secure a submission during the fight, something that tarnished his time in the UFC. “I don’t really care, to tell you the truth. If he happens to hold onto a submission when I'm punching, it means I've already lost the fight, and that's what matters most to me”, he concluded.
