Standing still since the victory over Junior Gypsy at the end of the trilogy for the belt in October last year, the heavyweight champion Cain Velazquez he should remain out of action for around a year before finally returning to the octagon. Speaking to journalists in Dallas (USA), during UFC 171, Velasquez stated that he is at the end of the recovery process from the surgery on his left shoulder, which he underwent at the end of last year, and planned his return only for the last quarter 2014.
“I'm at the end of my rehabilitation now, trying harder to regain my strength. I can't train yet, but I hope the doctor releases me soon,” said Velasquez, according to the “MMA Weekly” website. Asked about a specific date for his return, the champion released a not very optimistic prediction. “I think November sounds good. With recovery and everything, it would give me time to get ready,” he concluded.
Furthermore, the heavyweight champion also commented on the duel that should define his next opponent, between Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum – at UFC on FOX 11, which takes place on April 11. Velasquez didn't want to risk a guess, but said he sees the Hawaiian having a small advantage over “Vai Cavalo”. “No predictions yet. I’m kind of favoring Browne a little more, but let’s see what happens,” he concluded.
