UFC 170: Raphael Assunção's medical suspension could reach six months

After his sixth consecutive victory, the Brazilian positioned himself as the main candidate for the position of challenger for the bantamweight belt

After achieving his sixth consecutive victory in Ultimate, beating Peter Munhoz last Saturday (22), Raphael Assunção may have to postpone his plan to fight for the bantamweight belt if the injury to his left rib suffered at UFC 170 is confirmed. The Nevada Athletic Commission, the body responsible for regulating the event, released the list of medical suspensions for the event and Assunção appeared among the athletes who could receive the biggest hooks, if their injuries are confirmed.

According to the Commission, the degree of Raphael's rib injury will be assessed after an x-ray and only then will the Brazilian's suspension period be defined, which could vary from one to six months. Four other fighters also make up the group awaiting medical clearance or confirmation of a one-semester suspension, they are: Rory McDonald, whose right ankle situation will be reassessed; Stephen Thompson e Cody Gibson, both with suspected fractures in their right hand; and Robert Whitaker, who has an injury to his left forearm.

The other two Brazilians at the event, Rafaello Tractor e Demian Maia They received the same suspension period from the Nevada Athletic Commission: to remain without contact until March 25th and to return after April 9th. In Demian's case, the reason for the break was not indicated by the regulatory body. Regarding Rafaello, it was announced that the lightweight has an injury below his right eye.
