Like any high-performance athlete, MMA athletes are subject to a series of injuries every day, which can compromise their training routine and commitments made for fights. In addition to the risks during training, which can range from blows to injuries due to overtraining, fighters also end up encountering threats in their daily lives. It was the case of Rory McDonald. The Canadian, who fought and won Demian Maia at UFC 170, he revealed that he almost didn't participate in last Saturday's event due to a cut on his hand, suffered while he was cutting an avocado.
“I cut myself and it was really embarrassing. When it happened, I was very embarrassed. I couldn't believe it. I even thought I would have to give up the fight because I could have hit my hamstring or something,” said MacDonald at the press conference shortly after the event. “I went to the emergency room and got the stitches. But everything is fine, everything is intact. The cut was quite deep, but it didn't hit anything important, so I took the stitches, fought and everything is fine”, he concluded.
On Sunday night (23), Rory used his profile on Twitter to release images of the cut and celebrate the fact that, despite the injury, he managed to emerge victorious in the fight against Demian. “Here it is (the cut). I'm glad everything worked out in the end”, wrote the fighter along with a montage that includes photos of his cut hand and the avocado, indirectly responsible for the incident.
