The injury that forced Rashad evans withdrawing from the UFC 170 card just a few days before the event, which takes place next Saturday (22), is more serious than could be imagined at first, when the athlete even said that he would fight again soon. Contrary to Rashad's initial expectations, he will have to undergo knee surgery this week and is expected to be out of action for around six months.
“I am deeply disappointed to be left out of UFC 170, but you can be sure that I will come back stronger than ever. Thank you to all the fans for the messages and support you have given me”, published Evans in an official note, published on the official website of the “Blackzilians” academy, the team of which the North American is part. In next Saturday's event, Evans would face Daniel Cormier, in the light heavyweight debut of the former Strikeforce GP champion. In his place, Ultimate hurriedly summoned the wrestler Patrick Cummins, who has only four fights as a professional in MMA.
At 34, Rashad evans has a record of 19 wins, three losses and one draw. The North American was champion of the second season of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter. Three years after the TUF title, and still undefeated as a professional, Rashad became light heavyweight champion by beating Forrest griffin at UFC 92. “Suga”, as he is known, lost the title in the next fight, to the Brazilian Lyoto Machida. This isn't the first time Evans has left a fight due to a knee injury. In 2011, he would challenge then-champion Mauritius Shogun, but, due to the injury, he ended up being replaced by Jon Jones.
