Matt Serra, former UFC welterweight champion, announced his retirement from MMA last year. However, he would consider returning to fights only if he faced a name: Matt hugs.

The fighters had a great rivalry in the category at the end of the last decade. Together, the namesakes were coaches in the sixth season of reality show The Ultimate Fighter, marked by controversies and disagreements between the two.

Hughes and Serra would face each other at UFC 79, in 2007, in a fight that would be valid for the welterweight belt. However, Serra was injured and was only able to face his rival two years later, at UFC 98. Hughes prevailed, but the fight was close.

In an interview with the Canadian website “SportsNet”, Serra, 39 years old, expressed his desire to reunite with Hughes, 40. “I believe I have already stopped fighting, but I could definitely get back in shape and have another fight with Matt hugs. It would be fun. But only because of the way the first one ended. I'm sure people would like to see me hitting that guy, and vice versa,” she stated.

Like Serra, Hughes has also announced his retirement from MMA. His last fight was in 2011, when he was knocked out by Josh koscheck.
