Along with the announcement of the cut of Rashad evans of UFC 170, which takes place on February 22nd, the Ultimate organization announced that it will not look for a new opponent to Daniel Cormier, due to the proximity of the event, and canceled the fight. Ignoring the announcement, or even the fact that he already has a fight scheduled against Wanderlei Silva in May, Chael Sonnen was readily available to replace Evans and face Cormier with just ten days notice.

“You know I wasn't crazy about your late action. Daddy's not ready, but he's ready enough. February 22nd, just say my name”, Sonnen published on his official profile on Twitter. Currently, the loudmouth is still finishing the recordings of TUF Brasil 3, in São Paulo (SP), and already has the fight against Wanderlei Silva, rival coach on the reality show, scheduled for May 24th.

Sonnen's proposal seems to have encouraged Cormier, who had already deeply regretted what happened and strongly asked the UFC to reconsider its position of not offering him a new opponent, in any weight category. For DC, as is known, there is no problem facing Chael Sonnen. “There is someone out there who wants to fill the open spot in the fight right now. I saw on Twitter that Chael wants to fight. Ok, let Chael fight!” said Cormier in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website. “I would fight Chael right away, just like I would fight any of these guys. I just want to fight now”, he added.

Cormier also justified his position, stating that he would lose a lot of money and all the preparation already carried out so far. “Financially, I will lose a lot of money. But beyond that there are a ton of factors in this situation. So, not only what I would gain from fighting, but financially, the money I spent on this training camp. Plus, I killed myself at the gym. I spent ten weeks away from my family. I haven't seen my girlfriend and my children because I've been training hard. I go to the gym, come home and sleep. I see my girlfriend and children on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. These are the only moments I have with my family. I don’t want it to be in vain,” he concluded.
