Fabricio Werdum will undergo the final phase of his training for the fight against Travis Browne, at UFC on FOX 11, in the Netherlands. His main coach, Rafael Cordeiro, revealed that the gaucho plans to do an exchange during his last month of preparation at the renowned Mike's Gym, in Oostzaan, close to the country's capital, Amsterdam.
Led by Mike Passenier, the Dutch academy has already trained big names in current striking, including Badr Hari, Gokhan Saki and Melvin Manhoef. Cordeiro believes that the training period focused on muay thai will be essential for Werdum's victory. "In mid-March we will go to Holland and stay for 15 days to do the final preparation with the people at Mike's Gym. We have a good relationship with them and it will be an honor to be able to share our knowledge and provide good sparring sessions to Werdum", he said Cordeiro, in an interview with the North American website Sherdog.
“The Dutch breathe Muay Thai all day long. The training will leave Werdum armored, and will be a great advantage in the final stage of preparation. We have a lot of respect for our next opponent, but I believe this exchange will be a turning point for a big victory”, continued the coach, commander of the Kings MMA gym, located in Huntington Beach, in the US state of California.
The fight between Werdum and Browne will be the main attraction of UFC on FOX 11, on April 19th. The event, which will be in Orlando, United States, should define the next challenger for the heavyweight belt, currently held by Cain Velazquez.
