Thiago “Pitbull” Alves’ return to the UFC has finally been made official. The Brazilian, one of the country's top fighters in the welterweight category in recent years, will return to the Octagon on April 19, at UFC on Fox 11, facing Seth Baczynski. The information was released on the organization's official Twitter.
The fight will take place more than two years after Pitbull's last UFC appearance. On March 3, 2012, in Sydney, Australia, the Brazilian had a good performance against Martin Kampmann, but ended up submitting with a guillotine choke in the final minute of the fight. Since then, several injuries have prevented the fighter from performing again.
At 30 years old, Pitbull is one of the most veteran Brazilians in the UFC. His debut came in 2005, at UFC Fight Night 2, when he was submitted by Spencer Fisher with a triangle choke.
However, in the following years, he achieved a good streak of victories, including knockouts over Karo Parysian and Matt hugs, in addition to an impeccable performance against Josh koscheck. This gave him the opportunity to challenge for the welterweight belt. In the second most important fight of UFC 100, however, Alves was dominated for five rounds by the champion, Georges St Pierre.
Baczynski, two years older, has been a UFC athlete since 2011. The American has five wins and two losses in the organization, and in his last fight, in November, he beat Neil Magny in the judges' decision.
