Confirmation of a serious injury suffered by Jiri Prochazka on the eve of UFC 282, which takes place on December 10th, took MMA fans by surprise. Out of action and with the light heavyweight title (up to 93kg) relinquished, the Czech spoke out for the first time after the incident. The athlete would face Glover Teixeira in the penultimate event of the 2022 season.

“I am very disappointed to announce that I will not be defending my belt at UFC 282. I got injured during training in Las Vegas, when I was finishing my preparation for my light heavyweight title defense. I injured my shoulder and surgery will be necessary. (…) Knowing the information, I decided, after talking to UFC agents, that I will not hold the belt and will leave it vacant. (…) I apologize to Glover (Teixeira)”, said Prochazka, on his profile on Instagram.

On December 10, Jiri would make his first title defense. From the front, the Czech would have Glover Teixeira in immediate revenge for the throne.

With Prochazka out, Ultimate offered the Minas Gerais native a clash against Magomed Ankalayev, for the vacant belt. The Brazilian, however, conditioned the clash to take place in January, in Rio de Janeiro. Without interest, the UFC denied and confirmed the new title fight between Jan Blachowicz and the Russian.
