Considered by many to be the greatest pound for pound in the history of MMA, the Russian Fedor Emelianenko remains prestigious in his home country, Russia. During the Olympic torch relay at the Sochi Winter Games, the former PRIDE champion was one of those chosen to carry the torch for a few minutes.

At 37, Fedor Emelianenko He ended his career with a record of 34 wins, four losses and one unsuccessful fight. In his last fight, “The Last Emperor”, as he is known, beat Brazilian Pedro Rizzo by technical knockout. In the first decade of the millennium, the Russian had one of the greatest unbeaten records in MMA, going almost ten years without being defeated. The undefeated streak was broken with a Fabricio Werdum, in 2010, at Strikeforce.

The 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi begin on February 6th. In total, 15 sports make up the Games and 82 nations are guaranteed their presence. This will be the first time in the event's 80-year history that Russia will host an edition of the Winter Olympics. Four years from now, in 2018, the South Korean city of Pyeongchang has already been confirmed as the next venue for the ultimate winter sports event.
