John hendricks stated that he will do everything in his power to prevent the UFC welterweight belt from slipping out of his hands again. He is scheduled to face Robbie Lawler for the organization's title at UFC 171, which will take place on March 15, in Dallas, United States.
This will be the second chance Hendricks will have to become Ultimate champion. In November, he faced Georges St Pierre at UFC 167, but was defeated after a controversial decision by the judges. The American also claimed that, due to a problem with the bandage placed on his hands, he was unable to strike with his usual strength.
In an interview with the English magazine Fighters Only, Hendricks assured that he will not waste the opportunity. “I will do whatever I can control differently. The way I train, my entire posture. That means I’m going to put the bandage on in a way that allows me to hit as hard as I can,” he stated. “I'm going to fix these things, so wherever I hit, it's going to be at full power. With Georges St Pierre it was 70%, so wait until I hit with 100% of my strength.”
The fighter didn't seem bothered by the possibility of winning the title without dethroning GSP, who relinquished the belt shortly after his last defense. “I don't care about Georges, I care about the belt. I beat Georges. The whole world knows this, so what I want is the belt. I want that piece of gold that says I'm the UFC welterweight champion. That 's all I want. That's been my goal the whole time, so it doesn't matter who I win it against. I just want to take him home”, he clarified.
The fight between Hendricks and Lawler will headline UFC 171, which will also feature welterweight bouts Carlos Condit x Tyron woodley e Jake Shields x Hector Lombard.
