One of the main fighters in the UFC welterweight category, Martin Kampmann has been away from recent news. And, as far as he is concerned, the situation will continue like this in the coming months.

Even though his last fight was in August last year, when he lost to Carlos Condit at UFC Fight Night 27, his name was not involved in rumors involving upcoming opponents. And, in an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie, the Dane gave the justification: just as the former champion of the category did, Georges St Pierre, he wants to step away from fighting for an indefinite period of time to rest.

Kampmann, a professional fighter for ten years, has already suffered tough defeats in his career. In the last two, he suffered a quick knockout against John hendricks and succumbed in a violent struggle against Carlos Condit.

“I had a lot of tough fights. Even the ones I won were sometimes difficult for me. I'm just taking a long time to stay away, in no rush to get back into the octagon. I want to let my body recover and get well. When I feel like coming back, I will come back”, guaranteed the 31-year-old fighter, who still has a valid contract with the UFC.

“I've had my fair share of concussions, and sometimes I haven't had the time to recover. And it ends up coming back to you. That's why I'm staying away this time. I’m not retiring,” he highlighted.

A member of the UFC since 2006, Kampmann has a record of 11 wins and six losses in the organization.
