Bellator announced that Eduardo Dantas' next bantamweight belt defense, against another Brazilian, Rafael “Morcego” Silva, will be on March 7, at event number 111, in Thackerville, Oklahoma (United States).
Dantas will try to make the second defense of his title after recovering from an ankle injury, which kept him out of fights for much of last year. He won the belt in April 2012, when he submitted current UFC fighter Zach Makovsky. In February 2013, he made his first defense against his friend and training partner, Marcos “Loro” Galvão, winning by knockout.
Morcego, in turn, hopes to extend his undefeated streak, as he hasn't lost in 13 fights. Last year, he stood out by becoming champion of the Bellator tournament that concluded in October 2013.
The two fighters exchanged praise and promised a busy fight for the belt. “Rafael and I are friends, but Marcos Galvão and I are like brothers and I know I have a job to do,” said the champion. Morcego replied: “I love Eduardo Dantas as a fighter and as a person. We are good friends and I have always rooted for him. But I know the meaning this fight has for me, and nothing will stand in my way. Nothing,” he emphasized.
The night will also feature the first round of the heavyweight tournament, which will feature well-known names such as Lavar Johnson (ex-Strikeforce and UFC), Peter Graham and Mighty Mo (K1 veterans) and Blagoi Ivanov, undefeated in MMA and famous for having beaten the legendary Fedor Emelianenko in a samba match in 2008.
