Ronaldo Jacare Souza believes it is a matter of time before he wins the UFC middleweight belt. The Brazilian, who will have his third fight in the organization in February, against Francis Carmont, recognizes that the category is going through a strong moment, but is confident that his skills will be enough to win the title.
“The category took a very crazy turn with the defeat of Anderson Silva protocols for Chris Weidman, the victories of Vitor belfort and the arrivals of Lyoto Machida e Gegard Mousasi. But I know I'm up there in the rankings and my thoughts are on the belt”, said the fighter. “I'm 100% focused on Carmont, I know it's going to be a very tough fight because he's a complete fighter, but I'm going to bring another victory and get to the belt. Sooner or later he'll be mine, I'll take it from anyone", says Jacaré, who, in his previous fights in the UFC, beat Chris Camozzi and Yushin Okami.
Former training partner Anderson Silva, Jacaré sent his message of support to the former champion of the category, who was injured in his last fight, against Chris Weidman, in which he suffered a broken leg in the second round. “It's really bad when this kind of thing happens to any athlete. Imagine seeing that with a guy who trained with you, who is his friend. It was very sad. But I'm sure he'll recover and turn things around. I have already sent him messages, said that we are all with him and that he has already done a lot for the sport and will continue to do so”, he said.
The fight between Jacaré and Carmont will be the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 36, which will be held on February 15, in Jaraguá do Sul (Santa Catarina). In the main fight, Lyoto Machida faces Gegard Mousasi, also in the middleweight category.
