Diego Brandao admitted that he threatened Dustin poirier moments before the UFC 168 weigh-in, held on November 27th, in Las Vegas (United States).
The Brazilian and the North American had the most tense confrontation of the event, and, moments later, Poirier justified what happened, saying that he had been threatened by his rival. Brandão confirmed the events and said that he only attacked his opponent due to the stance presented by Poirier in the previous days.
“He kept staring at me before the weigh-in. Backstage, I said that if he did that again, I would poke him with a pen. That's what happened. Every time he saw me at the hotel, he kept staring at me”, explained Brandão, to the North American website MMA Fighting. “I asked him what the problem was, if he was hungry or something. When we entered the octagon, I saw that he was scared. He was lucky,” he said.
However, Brandão acknowledged that he needs to change his stance to avoid new controversies. “I have a lot of things to change, including the way I speak, my personality. People think I'm an ignorant guy, but I'm fun. But when I step into the cage, I’m fighting for my family and my career,” he explained.
In the fight, held on the main card of the last UFC in 2013, Brandão was knocked out at the end of the first round.
