Anderson Silva is the highlight of UFC 168, an event that takes place tonight (28), in Las Vegas. But before the main attraction, two Brazilians entered the octagon on the preliminary card of the show. William Patolino managed to recover from the setback in his debut in the organization and defeated Bobby Voelker. Gleison Tibau, on the other hand, was unable to maintain his good form in the lightweight category and ended up being knocked out by Michael Johnson.
Tibau loses by knockout
Gleison Tibau from Rio Grande do Norte arrived at UFC 168 with three wins in his last four fights and with his eyes on the top 10 in the lightweight division. But Michael Johnson delayed the Brazilian's plans. With a sensational knockout in the second round, the American achieved his second triumph in the Octagon.
Tibau started the fight better, where he landed good punches on his rival. But halfway through the first half, Johnson found the distance and started to control the dispute. After a very balanced first round, the North American ended the fight in the second round.
At the beginning of a frank exchange of blows, Johnson took advantage of a space in the Brazilian's guard and placed his left on the side of Gleison's head, which fell to the ground. On the ground, Michael still landed a few punches on the ground until he reached the knockout.
Patolino shines and wins first in the UFC
First Brazilian to climb into the octagon, William Patolino left behind the setback in the final of TUF Brasil 2. After finishing runner-up in the Ultimate reality show, the athlete from Rio was not intimidated by the pressure to win, he imposed his game and dominated Bobby Voelker.
At the beginning of the fight, the Brazilian took the initiative and landed good combinations of punches and knees. Voelker still tried to respond with counterattacks, but he didn't continue the attacks and didn't scare Patolino.
In the second half, the North American returned to the defensive and exposed himself less to William's attacks. But when the duel seemed balanced, the Brazilian changed his strategy, managed a takedown and opened up an advantage.
Dominating the fight, Patolino felt comfortable in the last round. With good combinations, the PEJOR athlete opened a deep cut on Voelker's face, which was attended to by the organization's doctor.
At the end of 15 minutes, victory for William Patolino in the unanimous decision of the judges (30×27, 30×27, 30×27).
'Ambulance Man' wins first in UFC
It took a while, but Urijah Hall managed to score his first defeat in the Octagon after two consecutive defeats. The fighter, who became known as 'Ambulance Man' for sending three TUF rivals to the hospital, was going through a bad time, but managed to make amends with the victory.
With a loose game, Hall showed the sharp striking that excited fans in TUF 17 and gave the veteran no chance Chris Leben. As soon as the fight started, Urijah went for a flying knee, which scared his rival.
Calm in the stand-up fight, he managed to impose his game and almost knock out Leben at the end of the session, but the bell saved Chris. However, very weakened by the punishment suffered, the veteran athlete was unable to return for the second round and a technical knockout was declared.
