Tarec saffiedine, former Strikeforce welterweight champion, believes that the removal of Georges St Pierre of fights will move the category in the UFC.

GSP, champion at 77 kg since 2008, gave up his belt to retire from activity for an indefinite period. Like this, John hendricks e Robbie Lawler will face each other in March 2014 to decide who will be the next champion. This also opens up the possibility for other fighters in the top 10 category to enter the fight for the title.

In an interview with the North American website MMA Fighting, Saffiedine was excited about his possibilities in the UFC. “Now, it will be even more exciting for the welterweight division and for all the guys who want that belt,” he said. “The welterweight division is very full, with a lot of great fighters. All the top 10 they are really tough. It’s not easy to get a chance to fight for the belt, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

The Belgian understood the reasons that made St. Pierre abdicate his title. “He has nothing left to prove. He was the champion for a long time. I understand that he needs time away, regardless of what reasons he uses,” he stated.
