Joseph Benavidez believes he is completely relaxed for what he considers the most important fight of his career. This Saturday (14), at UFC on Fox 9, the North American faces Demetrious Johnson for the Ultimate flyweight belt.
According to him, the fact that the fight will be held in Sacramento (United States), where he lives, contributes to his peace of mind during the week of the event. “I'm at home and that makes me feel more relaxed to do my work this week. I will only stay in a hotel for the last two nights [before the fight], because it is at the hotel that we have to catch the bus for the weigh-in”, described the fighter, in an interview with the North American website MMA Fighting.
“Other than that, I wake up in my own bed and get to play with my dog even if it’s a fight week. That’s how I’m dealing with this fight, even though it’s the biggest fight of my career,” continued the flyweight.
This will be the second clash between the two fighters in just over a year. In September 2012, Johnson prevailed in the judges' decision, winning the unprecedented belt in the category. Benavidez recognizes that, at that time, he didn't know how to deal with the magnitude of the fight. “I didn’t need to put pressure on myself. The fight was the first that was worth the title in the flyweight category and was against the best guy in the world. This is already intense enough. But I became obsessed with it. Today I see that I don’t need to approach it that way”, he analyzed.
