Despite having suffered a back injury weeks before UFC on Fox 9, when he was scheduled to face Carlos Condit, Matt Brown revealed that he even considered the possibility of fighting injured.

In an interview with the North American website Cage Potato, “The Immortal”, as he is known, stated that he gave up the fight thanks to the intervention of people close to him. “I knew I wanted to fight. My reason said it wasn't the best idea, but I couldn't say it out loud. I needed my family and my coaches to force me to give up the fight,” he said.

Brown gave details of the injury that took him out of the fight. “The prognosis for me is basically to spend a month doing nothing other than physical therapy. I can't bend down to pick up anything and I can't have any kind of impact. I can’t run or do anything like that,” he explained. “After two months, assuming the physical therapy is successful, I will have a cortisone injection [anti-inflammatory medication] and I will be able to have contact again.”

Even so, the fighter stated that he did not give up on facing Condit. “Carlos Condit It's still in my head. I definitely want to face him if everything goes well,” she commented.
