Maurício “Shogun” Rua and Antônio “Pezão” Silva had their greatest achievements in MMA at the same time. Between May 2010 and March 2011, Shogun held the Ultimate light heavyweight belt and confirmed the high expectations generated by his good performances in PRIDE, in addition to his title in the GP of the Japanese tournament. During his compatriot's reign in the largest organization on the planet, more precisely on February 12, 2011, Antônio “Pezão” Silva beat the Russian legend Fedor Emelianenko in the quarterfinals of the Strikeforce heavyweight GP. Just over two years after these achievements, on Friday night (06), Brazilian time, the duo seeks to rehabilitate themselves at UFC Fight Night 33, in Brisbane, Australia.

Coming from two consecutive defeats, something unprecedented in his career, Mauritius Shogun faces James Te Huna in the co-main event of the event. For the Brazilian, the duel gained even more importance recently, after statements by Ultimate president Dana White suggesting that he will talk to Shogun about retirement or changing weight if he is defeated. Already Antonio Pezão, in turn, has two losses and two wins in four fights for the UFC. In his last fight, last May, the Paraíba native was beaten by Cain Velazquez in the heavyweight title fight. In Brisbane, Pezão faces the New Zealander Mark Hunt in the main fight of the night.

In addition to Pezão and Shogun, three other Brazilian athletes will make up the fight night card: Caio “Monstro” Magalhães, who faces Nick Ring; Bruno “Carioca” Santos, who has Krzysztof Jotko from the front; and newcomer Bethe “Pitbull” Correa, who faces Julie Kedzie in the fight that opens the night’s main card. Tempers between Bethe and her opponent must be high after the official weigh-in. With a serious stance, the Brazilian tried to intimidate her opponent, who responded with mockery, covering her mouth and looking scared.

UFC Fight Night 33 starts at 21:30 pm this Friday (06) Brasília time, Saturday morning (07) Australian time. Check out the full event card below:
