The UFC has started another battle in search of its biggest challenge: legalizing MMA in New York. The franchise's CEO, Lorenzo Fertitta led a press conference at Madison Square Garden where he presented numbers that would result in good revenue for the city. Furthermore, the UFC called up champions for the press conference: Chris Weidman, Dominick Cruz and the brazilians José Aldo e Renan Barao increasing interest in the action.
“There is only one state in all of North America that does not allow MMA. And it's New York, where I'm from. And this is where another champion came from, Jon Jones. There are two champions in this region. Winning the belt is great, but there's something missing that I've worked passionately for my entire life, fighting in my home state. The time has come to change that”, said the fighter Chris Weidman, born in NY.
Lorenzo preferred to present income figures that the city would have with the legalization of events in the sport. “If MMA were legalized in NY, this could result in a US$ 135 million impact on the local economy per year in events”, calculated the Ultimate boss.
