Away from competitions for over a year due to a serious leg injury, Conor McGregor seems to be getting closer and closer to returning to the octagon. Former featherweight (up to 65,7 kg) and lightweight (up to 70,3 kg) champion, the Irishman has been attracting attention due to his current physical shape and indicating a possible return as a welterweight (up to 77 kg). Fifth place in the division, Gilbert Durinho has strong recommendations against this potential change.

In a recent interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”, the Brazilian stated that he would love to face Conor McGregor, but he doesn't consider the duel fair, as he sees the Irishman as a lightweight.

“He's not a welterweight, but if he wants to fight as a welterweight, I'd love to beat Conor up. I don't think he could take that punch. I'm not even talking about grappling, because it's not fair. I would put him down and spank him. A fight against Conor would only bring me advantages. I would beat him and still make a crazy amount of money. I'm not even going to ask for this fight, because it wouldn't be fair. He's a lightweight. If he fights at 77kg, he won’t be able to handle the knockout power and the wrestling”, analyzed Durinho.

In past statements, Conor McGregor He even challenged the welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. For Durinho, however, the Irishman would have no chance against any member of the top 5 in the under-77 kg division.

“If we talk about the top 5, everyone hits hard, except Colby covington, and everyone is good at wrestling. Colby is great at wrestling. Colby and Conor wouldn't be fun because Colby would dominate him in wrestling. Kamaru Usman He hits hard and is good at wrestling. Khamzaet Chimaev hits hard and is good at wrestling. Leon edwards He hits very hard, has great striking and is good at wrestling. I hit hard and I'm good at wrestling, so don't say you're a welterweight. You can't handle the top five in that division. You might face some guys at welterweight, but you're not a welterweight. If he really thinks he is, he should try to face some of the top 5 in the division. I don't think it's fair. We would just destroy it,” he finished.
