During a recent appearance on the podcast “MMA Hour”, on the North American website “MMA Fighting”, the Swedish-born Chechen stated that the Brazilian welterweight (up to 77 kg) will never be champion as long as he “is happy after being defeated”.

“This guy (Durinho), I made him famous. The guy was a nobody before me. I made him famous. He lost the fight and was happier. I was angry about that fight. I won, but I was angry because I didn't submit that guy. I don't understand how some guys like Gilbert are happy after losing fights. He went everywhere, gave interviews, kept saying he's going to fight me again. Yeah, let's fight, whatever, I can face him whenever he wants, but I don't see him being champion. If you are happy when you lose a fight, you will never be champion. I won my fight, but I spent a month angry, training to improve. I will never understand these things”, criticized Chimaev.

Third place in the welterweight rankings, Khamzat Shimaev returns to the octagon on September 10th, when he faces the veteran Nate diaz in the main fight of UFC 279, in Las Vegas, in the United States.
