The respectful tone with which Chael Sonnen treated Mauritius Shogun before the duel between the two, in August, surprised a lot of people. Even after the victory over the Brazilian, Sonnen still maintains a friendly atmosphere when referring to the former light heavyweight champion. This Thursday (14), at the UFC 167 press conference, the loudmouth once again spoke highly of Shogun.
“I didn’t think I was going to finish it. I don't think Shogun was ready to fight that night. He is a great sportsman and did not make excuses, as many do. I think he let me have my moment. I don’t think I faced the real Shogun,” said Sonnen.
On the 17rd of August, Chael Sonnen finished Mauritius Shogun with a guillotine in the first round of the main fight of UFC Fight Night 26. This Saturday (16), in Las Vegas (USA), Sonnen does it, against Rashad evans, the co-main fight of the event that marks Ultimate's 20th anniversary.
