The career path of Dan Henderson have changed drastically in the last year. The fighter won one of the most impressive battles in the history of Ultimate against Mauricio Shogun and qualified to compete for the light heavyweight belt against Jon Jones at UFC 151, in September 2012. But a short-notice injury took him out of the show and the organization, surprisingly, canceled the entire fight program. From this fact to the present day, Hendo has accumulated three defeats in a series and may not have his contract renewed with Ultimate.

Dana White, president of the franchise, revealed that the fighter's situation has not yet been defined, as Hendo's current commitment to the UFC ended after his fight against Vitor belfort, last Saturday (09), when he suffered the first knockout of his career.

“Hendo went to the hospital to do some tests and I didn’t speak to him. He wants to sign a new contract, but we will talk in the next few days and we will see what happens”, said the manager, who in some interviews revealed that Henderson should retire.

Despite Dana White's wishes, the former PRIDE and Strikeforce champion's team guarantees that the 43-year-old veteran fighter will continue fighting. Brazilian Ricardo Patcho, Dan's jiu-jitsu coach, was the one who revealed that the athlete would continue in MMA.

PUBLICITY:

“Fighting is a sport in which we have victories and defeats. This time Hendo lost and he's a little upset. But no matter what they say, he’s not retiring,” Patcho said.
