Khamzat Chimaev faces Nate Diaz in the main fight of UFC 279 in September

After much exchange of provocations, Khamzat Shimaev e Nate diazFinally, they will have the opportunity to share the Octagon. The two athletes will take part in the main fight of the UFC 279, which takes place on September 10th. The information was first released by Brett Okamoto, a journalist at 'ESPN'. It's worth remembering that this will be the last fight of the North American's current contract with Ultimate.

After both exchanged provocations on social media and the Swede expressed his desire to face the veteran several times, Ultimate responded to the two athletes and they will take part in the main fight of the UFC 279, which will take place on September 10th. The clash will be valid in the welterweight division (up to 77,1kg) and, obviously, will last five rounds. The event, which will be held at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas (USA), has not yet had any other duels confirmed.

Undefeated in professional MMA with 11 victories, Chimaev is considered one of the biggest names in Ultimate today. The Swede was hired by the organization in 2020 and surprised everyone by overcoming four opponents in a row, practically without being touched. In his last confrontation, Khamzat faced former challenger Gilbert Durinho and after an electrifying duel, he emerged victorious with the judges' unanimous decision.

One of the organization's oldest fighters, Nate will be in the last fight of his current contract and the 'atmosphere' behind the scenes is that there will hardly be a renewal. At 37 years old, Diaz has suffered four defeats in his last three fights and has not won with UFC gloves since August 2019, when he overcame Anthony Pettis. The North American has an MMA record of 20 triumphs and 13 setbacks.
