Days after indicating that he would accept a confrontation against Josh Emmett for his status as a challenger for the featherweight title (up to 65,7kg.) in Ultimate, Yair Rodriguez seems to have changed his mind. After the 'bitter victory' against Brian ortega No. UFC Long Island, the Mexican adopted a new stance and asked for a confrontation against the category champion, Alexander Volkanovsky. The challenge was made on social media.

"Alexander Volkanovsky, make the situation easy. I'm sure you have no doubts about your abilities and if you want to test yourself against yourself, make this fight happen. Are you going to run away from me again or are we going to make it a reality?”, wrote the Mexican, on his account on Instagram.

Current number three in the featherweight rankings, Yair continued with the challenge. According to the publication, the athlete has no doubt that he can become the fighter who ends the reign of the Australian, who has been shining within the organization.

“You know I'm next, everyone knows. We will end the season in (Las) Vegas or we can fight in his home country of Australia. A speedy recovery, champion. See you soon,” he signed off.

Last Saturday (16), Rodriguez entered the octagon for a confrontation against Brian ortega. The clash, however, ended disappointingly, with the American injured in the first round.

Owner of the belt since 2019, Volkanovski is recovering from a hand injury. The athlete suffered the injury during the confrontation against Max Holloway, UFC 276, when it surpassed the Hawaiian in dominant presentation in the historical trilogy for the category.
