Main candidate for challenger for the UFC middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg), Alex Poatán should have the opportunity to meet again with Israel adesanya, his victim twice in his kickboxing days. The Brazilian, however, raised doubts in Stephen Thomson regarding his chances of repeating his success against the Nigerian under MMA rules. In an interview with 'Technique Tuesday Show', the North American analyzed the confrontation and sees advantages for the champion.

“Both haven’t changed much when it comes to striking. This is MMA. Anything can happen. Anyone can attempt a takedown. (…) I believe it will be a classic Muay Thai fight, including elbows and more knees. It’s going to be an incredible fight,” said Thompson.

Although he does not hide his excitement for the dispute, which does not yet have a confirmed date or location, Stephen pointed out his favorite for the clash. According to the North American, the advantage, even with past defeats, belongs to the current champion.

“Regardless of anything, I want to watch the fight. Who will 'Izzy' face, other than Alex Pereira (Poatan)? They have a story. (Poatan) is the only guy who put Israel to sleep. They need to face each other again. For me, Adesanya will win, that’s how I see it,” he concluded.

Middleweight champion since 2019, Adesanya has been the target of criticism from fans and the specialized press. The athlete accumulates lukewarm performances, but still has five belt defenses.

New highlight of the company, Poatan shone in the UFC 276, a card that had Israel as the main protagonist. On that occasion, the Brazilian put on a show by running over Sean Strickland, taking an important step towards the trilogy against the Nigerian.
