apparently, Chael Sonnen don't like to talk about Charles of the Bronx as the 'moral champion' of the lightweight divisions (up to 70,3kg.). In official video on 'YouTube', the former fighter and current commentator cited an error in the scales and special treatment for the Brazilian, but declared that he does not like to mention him as the main name in his category.

“It is very important that we understand the lightweight division as it is, not for what we want it to be. The division doesn't have a champion and everyone forgets about it. We think Charles is the 'boss' but we do it just to be nice. Charles does what he does, so we're doing it to be nice. I think it's a mistake. You're not helping him. We kept acting like he was the champion. Every photo I see of Charles posted, he still has the belt. We are trying to give the conclusion that we would like to be accurate, but he is not a champion. And you could be helping Charles by reducing the pressure on him.”

According to Sonnen, Charles' interest in facing McGregor exposes a problem for his prominent position in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg.). According to him, the Brazilian should focus on the best ranked in the category.

“He wanted to fight Conor McGregor and that is a problem. We get it, it's 'money night', but you need to wait and slow down the splitting. And not facing the real candidates will be a bit of a problem”, concluded the fighter.

From the Bronx, he even lost his status as lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg.) after failing to make weight due to problems with the scale in the UFC 274. Even so, the Brazilian was not shaken by the situation and, in an exciting fight, overcame Justin gaethje by rear naked choke in the first round. In addition, he increased the number of fighters with the most submissions and victories on fast tracks in the history of Ultimate.
