Ultimate middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg), Israel adesanya was criticized by a large part of the MMA community for his passive role in the victory over Jared Cannonier, in the main fight of the UFC 276. Now, however, the former fighter and current commentator, Chael Sonnen, came to the defense of the Nigerian and questioned the fans' lack of interest in the athlete's presentations.

“All of this is applied by Adesanya x Pereira (Alex Poatán) be the main fight I want to see at the moment. If he (Israel) is so bad and we are all upset, how is he going to the biggest fight the sport can have? These things don't fit together. So what are we really doing here? We are seeing excellence and we are trying to beat him the only way we know how, verbally we cannot beat him in the Octagon,” said Sonnen on his official channel on 'YouTube'.

Adesanya and Poatan, in fact, are old rivals. Big names in kickboxing in the past, the two fighters met on two occasions, with the Brazilian winning in both encounters. Alex is the only athlete to knock out Israel in competition.

At 32 years old, the Nigerian reached his fifth defense of the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg.) and, in the history of the category, he is only behind Anderson Silva. Professional since 2015, he has 23 positive results and one negative result.
