This Saturday night will be busy in Long Beach. The 106th edition of Bellator will be held in the Californian city with three title fights, including the long-awaited rematch between Michael chandler and Eddie Alvarez, lightweight title.
The original Bellator 106 program would be the organization's first with PPV sales to the United States. The card would be starred by veterans Quinton Rampage Jackson e Tito Ortiz, both former UFC light heavyweight champions. But after Tito suffered a neck injury, the duel was removed from the card and the event will be shown on open TV.
Despite the loss of the attraction, the card is still busy. Initially marked as the second most important duel of the night, Michael chandler and Eddie Alvarez were promoted to headlining. The two faced each other in 2011, with Chandler winning by submission, in what was voted ‘fight of the year’.
In the co-main fight of the show, King mo Lawal, former champion of the extinct Strikeforce, and Emanuel Newton will have another reunion, worth the interim light heavyweight belt. In the first confrontation, Newton won by knockout with a spectacular spinning blow, in February of this year. In the third title fight at Bellator 106. Pat Curran will put the featherweight title on the line against Daniel Straus, who has already been beaten once by the title holder, by knockout in 2009, at XFO 29.
Brazil on the card
Brazil will have two representatives on the Bellator 106 fight program. Acting on the preliminary card, Cristiano ‘Soldier Boy’ Souza faces Alejandro Garcia in the welterweight division. Now, Cleber Luciano will face off against Joe Camacho, in the featherweight category. In addition to them, heavyweight Vinicius Spartan was supposed to participate in the show, making the final of the heavyweight GP against Frenchman Cheick Kongo. But an injury ended up taking the Team Nogueira athlete out of action.
