Juliana Velasquez tried hard, but was unable to reverse the result of her controversial defeat to Liz Carmouche, in a fight valid for Bellator 278. The Brazilian, who claimed to still be in action when the fight was stopped by referee Mike Beltran, had her appeal denied by the Commission State of Hawaii. The information was released by 'MMA fighting'.
Velasquez, at the time, lost the flyweight belt (up to 56,7kg) after suffering a series of elbows and seemed to be in good health to continue the fight. However, Mike Beltran assessed it as if it was already out of action and was criticized for the supposed early stoppage.

In the fight in which he would seek his second belt defense, Velasquez managed to control his opponent for a considerable time in the dispute. Beltran's stoppage came at the end of the fourth round. By the time she decided to end the confrontation, Juliana was in a disadvantageous position on the ground and was receiving elbows that did no damage. Mike, however, understood that the Brazilian would have disagreed with the challenger's actions, and chose to stop the fight, declaring a technical knockout.
Juliana's team filed an appeal to change the result, as they understood that none of the blows were crucial to the interruption. However, the Hawaii commission decided not to review the result and the referee's decision, as Beltran would have judged Carmouche to be largely dominant.

Professional in MMA since 2014, Velasquez has 13 appearances in the sport. Today, the Brazilian has 12 triumphs and one stumble. The fight against Liz, so far, marks the first negative result in the 35-year-old carioca's career.
