UFC athlete's brother leaves swimming to dedicate himself to MMA

The history of Luiz Besouro, is already known in the world of MMA. The fighter who signed a contract with the UFC after TUF Brasil 2 served as an inspiration for his brother Gustavo Dutra, known as Gugu, who also goes by the nickname Besouro. Undefeated in his four career fights, he seeks to complete the corner at Bitetti Combat 18, against Dennys “A Máquina”, an event that takes place next Friday, at the Botafogo gym.

But it wasn't always that Gugu was interested in martial arts. The carioca started his sporting life in swimming at Botafogo, where he stayed from 10 to 14 years old. Seeing his brother begin his career in wrestling, he decided to leave swimming pools aside and dedicate himself to fighting. Today, at 28 years old, he is one of the main revelations at RFT, the gym where he trains.

“Ever since I saw my brother train in wrestling, I wanted to do the same and gave up swimming immediately”, recalls the athlete. “I was enchanted by the dynamism of the sport, I tried it and I will never stop (laughs). I'm sure I made the right choice. In the fight, I found myself, I'm very happy nowadays and I still have the possibility of training with my brother, who besides being a training partner is my friend, he helps me with everything I need in life”.

Gugu Besouro projects a prosperous future in case of victory. In his plans, two or three more positive results could guarantee him a big contract with an international event next year. Confidence comes with building the entire cartel only in major national events, such as WOCS, Shooto and Jungle Fight.

“I believe I will have my chance in 2014, something tells me that. If I keep planning and keep winning, I'm sure I'll get a big contract. Obviously the peak is the UFC, but we have events like Bellator and others that could take me to the top one day”, guarantees the fighter.

Brother's source of inspiration, Luiz Besouro guarantees that Gugu is very well prepared and sees a victorious path for him within MMA. “My brother is ready and very well trained. I'm confident in another good performance from him. I know Gugu's potential, how much he struggles to get ahead in life. He will face a tough fighter, we know the difficulties, but he is flying and will put on a show for the public”, says Besouro.
