Before the fight between Lyoto Machida and Mark Muñoz, Dana White had already said that the confrontation was a great opportunity for growth for the winner. And it really was. After the spectacular knockout against Muñoz, Lyoto debuted in the UFC middleweight rankings in fifth place.

In the most recent update of the list, Machida appeared for the first time among the athletes up to 84 kg, already ahead of other important names in the division, such as: Chael Sonnen, Luke Rockhold and Mark Muñoz himself. They are ahead of the “Dragon” only Michael Bisping, Ronaldo Jacare, Vitor belfort e Anderson Silva – besides, of course, the champion Chris Weidman.

Interestingly, even with the debut in the new category, Lyoto Machida continues to appear in Top 10 of light heavyweights. The Brazilian, however, fell from sixth to tenth place. Causing Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen, Gegard Mousasi e Mauritius Shogun gain one position each.

Last Saturday (26), in his debut as middleweight, Lyoto Machida beat Mark Muñoz in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 30, in Manchester, England. After a very studied start to the fight, the Brazilian landed a relentless high kick on his opponent in the final stretch of the first round.
