Gregory Robocop celebrates evolution in striking and says he would like to face Edmen Shahbazyan in the UFC

In an exclusive interview with the SUPER LUTAS channel, a Brazilian reflects on his victory at UFC Austin and plans to become the organization's champion

Gregory Robocop It's just joy. After knocking out Julian Marquez and return to the path of victories, the Brazilian showed, once again, his power in striking and proved that he can be another one to come strong for the new Brazilian crop in the middleweight category (up to 83,9kg.).

Coming from jiu-jitsu, Robocop has marked his path through striking power. In three victories in Ultimate, he knocked out two athletes and still hasn't finished in the organization. In an exclusive interview with the SUPER FIGHTS no 'YouTube', when asked about a change in style, the fighter sees it as part of the evolution of MMA and says he is happy to also adjust his stand-up fighting.

“My wife goes crazy (laughs). She asks me to stop exchanging blows and putting the guys down. But I believe that MMA has undergone a huge evolution. Today, you are no longer a jiu-jitsu or striking guy. It's a sport that, the world champion of jiu-jitsu (Rudolph Vieira), will be finished. You have to be tough and very strategic. I've made mistakes in past fights where I could have ended the fight standing up and thought I had to finish. I’m not just a striker, but an MMA fighter”, says Robocop.

Despite not liking to define names for future fights, Gregory 'evaded the ordinary' and planned a duel against Edmen shahbazyan, midfielder talent who is not going through a good phase. The Brazilian cites the promise as a good challenge and says he would like to face it.

“I watched the fight Edmen shahbazyan, who I think is a tough guy and is in the top 15. I would like this fight. I don't need to ask the UFC for anything. They know what my next step is and I really trust the work they are doing. Whoever they offer me, I'm an employee. But, if I were to say a name, Shahbazyan is a guy I would like to face”, projects the Brazilian.

'It was on another level'

Gregory Robocop was relentless in ufc austin, event last Saturday (18). With an aggressive style, the Brazilian 'surpassed' and knocked out Julian Marquez still in the first round of the confrontation. Now, he analyzes the outcome and says he arrived ready to have a good performance in the fight.

“I was very well prepared for this fight. I had one of the best camps with the guys at Sanford MMA (academy). I always prepare for the best the guy can get in the cage. When I went up, I knew who Julian was. I had already seen his fights and knew his quality, so I thought he would have to be very prepared to win. When it started, the first hands I put on him, I thought: 'I'm on another level and I'm going to end the fight in the first round' and that's what happened. I was ready and programmed for it”, says the fighter.

Want to be champion

The dream of being champion touches the hearts of fighters and Robocop is no different. Willing to fulfill his goal in Ultimate, the Manauara man believes he can face any opponent towards achieving his ultimate goal in the organization.

“I have a goal of being champion. I have full physical, mental and spiritual conditions to be world champion. I'm not in a hurry. I want to arrive ready to leave an incredible career in the UFC and I'm ready for anyone. From now on, it's just murder. I'm already dying to fight again. My focus is to get into the top 15 and then only move up”, he concluded.
