A few days after the defeat against Jiri Prochazka No. UFC 275, Glover Teixeira opened up about the commitment. In an exclusive interview with SUPER FIGHTS, the Minas Gerais native spoke about the confrontation that resulted in the loss of the UFC light heavyweight (up to 93kg) belt. At 42 years old, the veteran asks for a rematch.
Former champion, Glover experienced a real battle in the octagon on June 11th. At the time, the Brazilian was winning the match against Prochazka, but ended up surprised with a submission in the final seconds of the match.
Fight analysis
With less than a week to go before the dispute, Teixeira is not hiding from analyzing the confrontation. Although the result was not what he expected, the Brazilian looks favorably on his performance against the new champion.
“I was satisfied with the performance during four and a half rounds. Almost five rounds. (…) It was a very top fight. (…) He (Prochazka) showed heart and managed to win. (…) The strategy was to put it down and finish. (…) If I fight like this in my next fight and complete the full rounds, I will emerge as champion. There can be no hesitation”, he guaranteed.
Immediate rematch
Even with the negative result, Teixeira was responsible for imposing the biggest challenge in Prochazka's career. Without the title, the Minas Gerais native says he will seek an immediate rematch against the new light heavyweight champion.
“'Joinha' (Jorge Guimarães, businessman) is working on this. The UFC already knows, Dana already knows. The fans want it too, all the people who like the fight,” he said.
Hits and misses
In his quest to regain the throne of the under-93kg division, Glover already knows how to point out the successes and mistakes in the clash. The athlete then talks about the highs and lows in the UFC 275.
“The decision was to stick with the strategy. The strategy was to put it down and finish. (…) Be calmer. The moment I went for the guillotine (last round), he had his neck on my arm. I jumped in wanting to finish, a little hastily”, he concluded.
