New Brazilian Ultimate star, Alex Poatán is one victory away from competing for the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg) in the organization. According to the athlete's manager, Jorge Guimarães, known as 'Joinha', there is an agreement for the kickboxing legend to act for the company's title, if he is successful in the confrontation against Sean Strickland, UFC 276, on July 2nd. In an interview with podcast 'Free Exchange', the agent explained the situation.

The hammer has already been struck. Whoever wins the fight between Sean Strickland e Alex Poatán will face the winner of Jared Cannonier e Israel adesanya (who head the same UFC 276). This has already been agreed”, said 'Joinha'.

Poatan's representative, Jorge, however, reveals the difficulty faced in finding an opponent who would accept a challenge against Adesanya's tormentor in his kickboxing days. The agent, however, celebrates the client's commitment on July 2nd.

“Everything happened as planned. It was difficult to execute the plan. 12 fighters refused to face Poatan, but everything worked out. Now, he will have his third fight (with UFC gloves) and can now challenge for the title. It’s a dream come true,” he signed off.

No UFC 276, Alex will step into the octagon to defend his unbeaten record in Ultimate. To date, the kickboxing legend has won two successes in a row, with a knockout and a points victory.

If he beats Strickland, Poatan will reach the top 5 in the division and make the bet made by Ultimate worth even more.
