Away from MMA for just over a year, alistair overeem believes that his cycle in the sport has not ended. At 42 years old, the athlete admits that he still intends to perform in the sport and has a name in mind. In an interview with 'The MMA Hour', the Dutchman, who has a contract with Glory, proposed a fight against Fedor Emelianenko.
“The fight against Fedor was not something I was looking for. (…) However, the closer it gets, the more it becomes palpable. I'm really getting excited about this (challenge against Emelianenko),” said Alistair.

Pride icon and, for years, UFC standout, Overeem avoids sounding disrespectful when it comes to the 'Last Emperor'. The Dutchman, however, states that the clash could generate interest among fans.
“This type of issue develops quickly and people start to comment. It's really cool, actually. Let’s do this”, he asked.
At 42 years old, Overeem left Ultimate at the beginning of 2021. After being released from the company, the fighter signed a contract with Glory, responsible for kickboxing clashes. An injury, however, prevented the veteran from making his debut with the company.
Even with the dream of facing Emelianenko, Alistair has an appointment scheduled for October, at Glory. In the show, the Dutch 'giant' will have a trilogy against Bard Hari, the veteran's rival twice (2008 and 2009), from his K-1 days. So far, the dispute between the combatants is tied, with a positive result for each side.
Observed by Overeem, Fedor has not performed since October of last season. In the confrontation, the 45-year-old Russian defeated Tim Johnson by knockout in the first round.
