A true MMA refereeing legend and, today, Bellator commentator, John McCarthy has an idea for his next commitment Nick Diaz. An icon from the early days of the UFC, the professional welcomes a title fight at the 'bad boy', but not by an official title. In an interview with podcast 'Weight In', Big John presented his suggestion.

“I wouldn’t mind seeing Nick Diaz fighting for a title, but saying a belt doesn't mean it's for the welterweight throne (up to 77kg.). Could it be the 'BMF' belt (in possession of Jorge masvidal). I wouldn't mind watching a confrontation between him (Diaz) and Masvidal. Jorge faced Nick's brother (Nate diaz). (…) When Nick resumed his career (after more than six years of inactivity), this should have been the confirmed fight,” said McCarthy.

Interested in following a new performance by Diaz in the UFC, John clarified his thoughts on a clash between 'bad boy' and the current welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman. In recent days, the veteran stated that he would like to 'jump the queue', to measure strength against the 'Nigerian Nightmare'.

“Kamaru would fight Nick on his feet until he started to get tired. That's what he would do and then start using wrestling. I don’t think Kamaru would accept striking for a long time,” he concluded.

Former Strikeforce champion and favorite of the North American fans, Diaz returned to the octagon for a confrontation against Robbie Lawler in September 2021. In a historic rematch for the UFC, the 'bad boy' ended up defeated in the third round, losing by technical knockout, via medical interruption.

With the stumble against Robbie, Nick expanded his bad moment in professional MMA. At 38 years old, the North American has not had a positive result since the triumph against B.J. Penn, in 2011. Since then, there have been three setbacks and one 'I didn't answer'.
