Since Alex Poatán signed with the UFC, MMA fans are eager for a possible duel between him and the middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg) Israel adesanya, as the two have a history of rivalry from their kickboxing days, with two victories for the Brazilian.
With the possibility of fighting becoming more and more real, Glover Teixeira, Poatan's mentor in MMA, guarantees that his pupil has been ready for the challenge for a long time.
“I don't take anything away from Adesanya, but I think Alex (Poatan) has been ready for him since his first fight in the UFC. I knew he would climb the ladder. I already knew. Styles make fights and Alex is getting better, better and better”, guaranteed the light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg).
According to Glover, so much confidence is due to the intelligence of Alex Poatán when it comes to fighting. The light heavyweight champion defined the former GLORY world champion as a “genius”.
“This guy’s fight IQ is really high. He's very intelligent, you don't understand. The guy is a genius when it comes to fighting. He was talking to Lyoto (Machida) and Lyoto said that the things he said were things that Lyoto's father said to him. He learns very quickly,” Glover said.
Finally, Glover reaffirmed that Poatan has been ready to face Adesanya since before he even entered Ultimate and stated that he believes that the middleweight champion does not have the weapons to neutralize the Brazilian.
“Alex was ready for Adesanya since before he entered the UFC. He was ready for Adesanya in the first fight, because of the styles. I don't think Adesanya has the floor to beat him. It’s going to be a striking fight,” he concluded.
