After being brutally knocked out by Michael chandler No. UFC 274, Tony Ferguson was invited by Charles of the Bronx to train with him at Chute Boxe, in São Paulo. “El Cucuy” showed respect for the Brazilian, but chose to decline the invitation, at least at the current moment.

In an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”, Tony Ferguson stated that, as much as he had “swayed” with the proposal to train with Charles of the Bronx at Chute Boxe, he still sees the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) as a potential opponent in the future.
“I really need to reflect on what he (Do Bronx) said, because Chute Boxe is a very good school. But he's in my weight division. I'm one of the only guys he didn't submit and I went into that fight without practicing any jiu-jitsu. I didn't do so bad. I didn't turn out like Dustin poirier. I stayed active and looked for submissions everywhere. It's not like I trained very hard. I really need to think about this, because I see myself facing him again (…) I know exactly what I have to do and I can't answer yes or no to that. But I know that right now is not the time for me to go train with Chute Boxe. There are other local academies where I can be part of a team and help them evolve at the same time I evolve,” replied Ferguson.
Charles of the Bronx e Tony Ferguson faced each other in UFC 256, in December 2020, with the Brazilian winning a unanimous decision. Among the 11 consecutive victories that the Brazilian has, “El Cucuy” was the only opponent who managed to take the fight into the hands of the judges.
