The controversial scale failure that resulted in the loss of the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg) to Charles of the Bronx No. UFC 274 from last Saturday (7) continues to give something to talk about. This time, it was the turn of the UFC's vice president of regulatory affairs, Marc Ratner, to talk about the legitimacy of the instrument used in the official weigh-in.

“The official scale was the one they weighed on Friday, with the Arizona Commission, when this weighing takes place. 28 fighters were in the weight class (only Do Bronx and Norm Dumont failed). So I'm pretty sure there was nothing wrong with the scale. She was very precise. What people are saying is that the night before, some fighters wanted to change the scale from pounds to kilograms on the scale where they can step down and check their weight. We have no proof, but this may have tipped the practical balance,” Ratner said in a radio interview.SiriusXM'.

With the change, Charles of the Bronx weighed in at 70,5kg. Even after an extra hour to cut around 200g, he was unable to reach the lightweight limit for the title fight, in addition to having his title stripped. Marc, however, highlights that there was nothing wrong and is not in favor of switching to digital scales.

“I'm not sure what time Charles or his coaches came down on Friday, but he's saying he checked his weight on Thursday night and it was fine. I can say with certainty that on Friday there was nothing wrong with the official scale. We always use an anthropometric scale, which is accurate and calibrated. So I have no problems using it. We have been successful using it for the last 15 years I have been doing it,” he concluded.
