Ariane Sorriso is dominated by Lupita Godinez and sees her winning streak broken at UFC 274

The Brazilian couldn't resist her rival's takedown game, she was easy prey from start to finish and was defeated again after two consecutive victories

The Brazilian Ariane Sorriso saw his winning streak come to a halt in UFC 274. On Saturday night (07), the strawweight division (up to 52,2kg) was dominated by the Mexican Lupita Godinez which won the unanimous decision of the judges. The show took place at the Footprint Center, in Phoenix, Arizona (USA).

Representative of Mexico in the largest MMA organization in the world, Lupita recorded her second consecutive victory in the company and is standing out in the under-52,2kg division. Godinez now has a record of eight triumphs and three setbacks as a professional athlete.

Buoyed by two positive results, Ariane did not have a good night's performance and saw her undefeated streak broken. The Brazilian athlete now has 14 triumphs and two setbacks in the sport.

The fight

Ariane started the fight already trying to put pressure on Godinez, who countered with a blow and then went into a takedown to take down the Brazilian. On top, the Mexican tried to grab the Brazilian's neck, who resisted, but was unable to get out of her rival's control. Ariane managed to stay on her feet, but only for a few seconds. Soon, the Mexican went to the back and started trying to choke her. Lupita's pressure was intense and the Brazilian, despite trying, continued to be dominated by her opponent's grappling. On top of that, Godinez lost the grip on the submission but continued to strike with punches and knees.

Sorriso returned for the second round trying to keep the fight standing, but managed to resist just over 30 seconds before receiving a cross to the face and being taken down again by the Mexican. A rain of elbows applied by Godinez left the fight very close, but the Brazilian managed to survive.

Lupita tried to take Ariane's back, but gave up and got back on top. Godinez continued to dominate the Brazilian, who remained with her back to the ground and varied between punches and elbows, which abused the Tupiniquim athlete's face. The Mexican landed a katagatame but Sorriso was a warrior and resisted to avoid 'hitting'. The second round ended with another walk from Ariane's rival.

In the third part, Godinez didn't want to run the risk of losing the advantage he had gained and took the Brazilian down in the first few seconds. Ariane managed to get up again, but soon after, she took a cinematic fall from her rival. Godinez followed the 'protocol' of the first two rounds and even without trying for a submission this time, he continued to score and strike the Brazilian calmly, until the last bell sounded.

While Garcia dominated the center of the cage and was more aggressive, Newson used counterattacks more and took advantage of the gaps given by his rival to attack.
