It's official. After failing to make the weight cut for what would represent his second lightweight title defense.), Charles of the Bronx is no longer the category champion. After using the grace period and failing to reach the 70,3kg mark, the Brazilian ended up dethroned even before the confrontation against Justin gaethje.

Tension was in the air for Do Bronx's weigh-in. The athlete was the last fighter to appear at the measurement site and, weighing around 220g, did not reach the established limit.

The Brazilian, however, had 60 minutes of grace to try to fulfill his commitment to the scales. After an hour, Charles returned to the scale, but still weighed 70,5kg.

Moments after the São Paulo native's weigh-in, UFC officials confirmed the information that Do Bronx is no longer lightweight champion.

What happens now?

Even with the failure, Do Bronx remains confirmed in the confrontation against Justin gaethje. The Brazilian, however, will not be competing for the title. If the São Paulo native wins, the lightweight throne will be vacant.

In this way, Gaethje becomes the only one involved in the main fight who will be able to leave the octagon with the belt. The North American has his second opportunity to take over the absolute top spot in the under-70,3kg division.
